Lightness
Lighter gear allows you to move more freely and won’t weigh you down when stowed in a backpack, keeping you comfortable for longer. More durable and protective clothing will naturally be a little heavier.

Insulation level
This is the level to which the product is insulated, but it’s not just about the quantity of insulation – it could also be the quality or fill power. A lower level of insulation prioritises mobility, breathability, and packability, while a higher level prioritises warmth for extreme conditions.

Breathability
This is the rate at which the item can dispel moisture. The more breathable it is, the more comfortable you’ll be, especially when you’re working hard. Note that some types of garment are naturally more breathable than others and so our products are only compared against others in the same category.

Pack size
Nothing we make is unnecessarily bulky, but some items pack down smaller than others. This will be particularly relevant if you’re moving fast or packing lots of kit, but less so if your priorities are durability and protection.

Durability
The more durable something is, the more abrasion resistance it will have, so the less likely it will get damaged if it comes into contact with rock or sharp tools. However, this does tend to make garments heavier and less packable, so it might not be suitable when you’re moving fast and light.

Wind resistance
Wind resistance is your garment’s ability to stop the wind in its tracks, which is particularly important in cold or exposed environments where windchill can speed up your heat loss. Note that wind resistance comes at the expense of breathability, so windproof items will help keep you warm but they won’t be as good at expelling moisture on the climb.
